WHICH WILL WIN IN A RACE?? BETWEEN THIS 3 CARS!?
-
1998 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L 112 kW , 150 HP @ 4,000 rpm; 215 ft lb , 298 Nm @ 2,750 rpm 1999 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T L4 112 kW , 150 HP @ 5,700 rpm; 155 ft lb , 210 Nm @ 1,750 rpm 2003 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L L4 SAE and 100 kW , 134 HP @ 6,000 rpm; 132 ft lb , 179 Nm @ 4,500 rpm What does @rpm means? I know its revolution per minute, but what does it do with horsepower? how does it work. and how does torque comes in to play? ANOTHER QUESTION my friend keeps arguing that his audi a4 quattro has 175 horsepower. I RESEARCH everywhere and it says 150. theres no way his is 4 cylinder, i will believe him if he has the 2.8 V6. anyways just confirm to me if im right. thanks

Answer:
RPM = how many times the crank shaft makes a full revolution in 1 minute. RPM just tells you when it gets the power. The RPM doesn't really say much without the gearing being listed. Torque is the force that gets you moving. To determine who will win you need to acknowledge the weight, transmission, and gearing. You also need to say what type of race, a drag race will have a different answer than a street race (with turns) He could have modified his his a4

your friend's a4 came with 168bhp. You have to remember that it is a turbocharged 4 cylinder that could easily be coaxed into making more power with a simple ecu flash. The rpm tells you at what speed the engine makes the most amount of power. Torque is a number based on hp and dependent on rpm as well. Maybe stock and probably slightly modified the a4 would take the mustang and the tiburon.

@rpm means that at 4000 rpm the mustang will be producing 150 hp, usually this is the max hp used. torque is the thump you get when you hit the gas, Your buddies car may have 175 hp.. a few bucks can do alot to a car. He may also have the S4 Audi v6 with turbo.

Mustang. as for the Audi, it could have 175 hp with a 4. I had a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder turbo (Ford) with 250 hp. sometimes hp can be lower and a car faster if it weighs less.
whata waste
The car above that wins the race is the one with the better driver. All THAT being equal the Audi would probably win due to the wight vs horsepower ratio. @rpm tells you at what rpm the engine was running when it hits its max horsepower rating. The mustang above hits 150hp at 4200rpm. at lessor or higher rpm the horsepower is not quite the same. A car doesn't HAVE a set horsepower. It looks like a curve on a graph. Your buddy could have made a few small bolt on adjustment to his engine, exhaust or body wieght to easily have bumped the published 150 up to 175. The question is... can he prove it by putting it on the dyno. The dyno is a machine that measures the horsepower of a car as it is running. They put the wheels on rollers so it stays stationary and you start it up and run through the gears and the rpms. It measures the output. Its also an expensive test if you barely have 2 20's to rub together so he may not do it.
