Do I need a passport to fly from Glasgow to Dublin?

Do you need a passport if you are travelling from the England to Dublin (ireland)?

  • As ireland is part of the united kingdom i wondered whether you need a passport, im asking because my mum is turning 50 this year and wanted to get a flight and hotel in dublin for her as a surprise as she's always wanted to visit Dublin. I see her passport has just expired and asking her to renew her passport will ruin the suprise all together

  • Answer:

Dublin is not in the UK, Northern Ireland is part of the UK. however, Dublin is not international so you will not need a passport, you will however need some form of photographic ID (voting card, driver's licence [even a provisional]) to get there by ferry or plane. however, have you considered travelling to belfast and then getting a bus or some such to dublin? i drive to dublin all the time from belfast and have never needed anything to cross the border.

I would call the intended airline to confirm whether a passport is needed under the circumstances. However, I have travelled to Dublin from the Isle of Man and all that was required was a government-issued photo ID, i.e., driver licence or passport. I hope this helps.

Not sure in your case, but you'd be much better off taking it and not needing than not taking it and needing it.
