Question about commuting to school :O?

  • Okay so right now im a freshmen at UCR and I was thinking about commuting next year. THis year i stayed in the dorms but did not enjoy my time here. I was wondering if i were to live with my parents and commute to school , how much less financial aid would i receive from the school ? Or how much commuting would cost me ? THanks everyonee ! :D My parents live in Pomona

  • Answer:

That's about 1.5 hours of driving each day. I wouldn't recommend it. Regarding financial aid, it depends on what aid you're getting right now.

You need to figure out the cost of insurance, a car...gasoline and maintenance. Plus how many hours of driving and stuck on freeways. You need to check with financial aid on your place of residence and your scholarship/grant money. If it is 60 miles round trip to school and home that is over $12.00 per day, just for gas. And about 1/2 set of tires per year; $200 and then Brakes....$200 per year and insurance $100 per month Oil Changes $150.00 per year. You just need to write down all the expenses and compare you costs. The big thing is the time factor of commuting and the cost of the car. Good Luck.
