What does a transit bus weigh?

Do mostly low-income individuals take the bus (public transit) in your area?

• I'm a 20 yr old guy in college and I can tell ya that by FAR and LARGE - the bus is mostly filled by people who are low-income. I live in a small town in Florida and most people drive to work/school - Public transit is almost strictly reserved for low income individuals - Maybe most people who can afford vehicles are too lazy to walk to a bus stop? I'm not sure. Even with the gas price surges we've been seeing- I haven't see any increase in the amount of people using the bus in this town. Mostly hispanics, african americans, painters and people who smoke inhabit the bus I take everyday to college. I wonder why it's this way... there are tons of bus stops in my area and the bus comes through town every hour of the day... I've considered when I graduate college with my Nursing degree still taking the bus to save up money for a nice car rather than springing for an old cheap one...or maybe even saving up to buy a house before I consider a vehicle... I can most certainly say that I'm not about to throw my money out the window on a pack of smokes or booze like those low-lives who I ride with on the bus everyday. It's so damn depressing, I wish more high-class people took the bus so I had someone on there to relate too.

  I'm not sure why that is. I'm studying at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (metro population is around 1 million, I think) and the vast majority of people who live off campus commute by bus or LRT, or a combination of both.
