What do they mean by a traffic delay?
-
I live in Puerto Rico, so we handle traffic reports a little differently so we don't have some traffic controls like car pool lanes and jaywalking. Know, I understand flight and train delays since these are scheduled ways of travel, but what do they mean by, for example, a 10 or 15 minute delay in traffic?

Answer:
It means it will take an extra 10 or 15 minutes to get through wherever than it would if there was no traffic and you were doing the speed limit. I hear it all the time on the traffic reports on the radio in NYC for the approaches to the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, and the George Washington Bridge.
