What is the average amount of money spent on gas in the U.S?

Average amount of money spent on gas a week?

  • Approximately how much do you spend weekly on gas for your car?

  • Answer:

I spend $50 a week on gas, commuting 9 miles a day to and from work + leisure and errand driving. My car averages 18mpg in average stop and go Los Angeles traffic which is often horrid. If I drive to San Diego or San Bernadino or another far off land with no traffic I actually get 28mpg. You can increase your gas mileage and thus save money by: 1) tailgating semi trucks on the freeway, resulting in less wind resistance. 2) keeping your windows rolled up when going over 50mph. 3) not going over 4000 RPM when accelerating 4) approaching a red light slowly and timing it, waiting for it to turn green instead of approacing the red light at full speed and stopping.

I drive at least 50 miles round-trip to work and back each day. Every 7 to 10 days, I fill up the tank because the fuel light is on. With gas here running in the $2.59-$2.79 range for regular 87 octane, I can fill up for around $35. I'm getting about 28 mpg lately due to extra weight in the back of my truck (2006 Ford Ranger 2.3-liter five-speed) and winter blended gasoline (always makes me drop a mpg or two), but in the summer, I can hit 30 mpg regularly and even touch 32 mpg if I do my commuting at 55 mph instead of the posted 65 mph speed limit. My wife drives about 60 miles round-trip per day in her car (2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8-liter automatic). She always averages about 32 miles per gallon. We fill her car up every weekend whether it needs it or not (because she works second shift and doesn't want to have to stop and fill it up through the week in the wee hours of the morning), and usually spend less than $25, no matter how low the tank gets.

I spend roughly $100 to $150 a week, though I drive a full size V8 pickup, and travel a fair distance to and from work. Plus I get easily bored with sitting home, so I'll go for a drive two or three times a week, which gets pretty darned expensive. My buddy, who has a Sunfire, spends between $35 and $45 a week, and drives pretty much the same distance I do. Ya gotta pay for what ya want lol.

I'd say every 2 weeks about $40.. so $20. I don't drive much, cept to work and occasional weekend events. Also my car is pretty decent on fuel efficiency. (not like a hybrid tho). I don't know why you're asking this, but if I'm assuming you're trying to figure out your budget. I'd say you budget about $100/mo on your car for gas +oil.
