How can I avoid getting tired while I study?

How can I avoid getting tired when I drive?

  • I have recently started a new job where it takes me ~90 minutes to drive to work (mostly on the motorway). This is making me tired. Can I minimise the effect by changing the way I drive?

  • Answer:

As a professional driver, I too can attest that getting enough sleep is the BEST way to stay alert while driving. I would imagine that this is more of an issue on the way home after work? Try to take a short walk or break session outdoors prior to leaving on your trip home. I DO like the idea of ridesharing, you might not have someone in your town that you work with, but perhaps half way to work you could meet a co-worker. You could certainly save on some fuel and wear and tear on your vehicle and split driving days into your job. As far as changing the way you drive, I would suggest the following: Drive at a consistent speed, avoid having to drive fast and make loads of lane changes. Think of the Tortoise and the Hare.... You're still going to get where you need to, but driving smoothly and consistently is LESS stressful and less stress is less tiring. Hope this helps and drive safe.

Get your eyes tested as you may be straining them and not realise which in turn will make you tire I find listening to a good radio chat keeps me alert as i listen to the conversations instead of mind numbing music and commercials

Yes mate make sure you get enough sleep at night. have the radio on in the car and have the window open, take a break if you feel tired. I am a biker and know tiredness kills, once I had NO sleep before work and HAD to go in I was cream crakered and was so tired I forgot to do a life saver ( that's when we look over our shoulder before changing lances called that for a VERY good reason) anyways I just check my mirror and pulled out right into a Lorry's path lucky for us both I just saw him at the very last second or I would not be here now typing this. Take heed my friend.

Ridesharing with someone you work with would be the best thing if possible. Driving sleepy is as dangerous as driving drunk. As a professional driver who covers 3000 to 3500 miles a week I have to tell you that the only safe and reliable way to avoid being tired while driving is to get proper sleep. Keeping from being bored is another story though. Invest in XM or Sirius radio if you don't already have it. Fill your favorite mp3 player with your favorite music, also with audiobooks. I listen to several audiobooks a week. They're expensive to buy but most libraries have a nice selection for free. Good luck to you and stay safe!

man how much does that cost you in fuel a week! apart from moving closer to work. like most of the other answers get plenty of rest and sleep the night/day before your commute. make sure you dont have a massive breakfast or meal before you drive, drink energy drinks or high caffine based drinks bad for you i know but better than a visit to a&e. please dont drive in bare feet you dont have proper control on the pedals and its painful! wear open sandals and make sure you dont have the car too hot. hope this helps

if it's falling asleep you're worried about, take your shoes off and blow cold air down at your feet, you'll never sleep with cold feet, or at least it works for me. good luck
