How to transfer car title?

How can I transfer a car title in my name?

• I bought this car off a person from IL that has a CT title. The first owner signed off the title then that person signed it off on the same day as buying the vehicle to whom it looks like some kind of relative. Then that person never drove the vehicle so they signed it off to a friend that could sell it. This means none of them had the title in their name and it is still in a CT title. What they basically did is title jump. I went to the Secretary of State (I live in MI mind you) to have it titled in my name, they said I had to have the first person on the back title the car then sign it off for me to put my name in. That means I'd have to track all the way back for this. I contacted the seller, he said that if he could get a power of attorney signed for me to take custody of the car then everything should run together. He knows the first guy and could get him to title the car in his name, but in IL takes two months to go through. Is this true?

  OK if he knows the first guy then the first guy can go to the Secretary of State and put in for a lost title being it is still in his name real easy some states he will get it the same day other state he should get it within two week after he gets a lost title all he has to do is sign the title and send it to you other wise it can take up to 3 months to get a clear title hope this helps
