How much money do Toyota sales people make?

Do car sales people make nothing at or below invoice?

  • I hear the DEALERSHIP can make money off special incentives and rebates.....but I keep hearing if they sell at invoice the SALES PERSON is not making money is that true? I know the dealer is still making money regardless if they sell a car at invoice...

  • Answer:

that's a tricky question, the sales people get a flat on new and used when they sell them for cost. usually 100.00 or 200.00 depending on the dealership they work for. they also get spins from most manufacturers that the can get an additional amount on a credit card for selling specific models in any given month, the dealership also get a "stair step" bonus for selling a certain amount of cars in the month that can add up to a lot of money later on. there is also an amount no one knows about called "hold back". usually 500.00 to 5000.00 depending on the make and model they are selling. if its a high line vehicle like a Mercedes its close to 5000.00 a Chevy cobalt is about 500.00. hope that answers you question.

Knowing a few car dealers, I can tell you right now, that Invoice is not usually what they pay for the car. Usually they pay a few grand less than Invoice to begin with, so when they sale at or below invoice they still make money. Plus when they sell extended warranties and scotch gaurd and under carriage rust protection ect. that is where they make most of their money.

The sale person will make the bare minimum, if the car is sold at invoice. Normally 50-100 dollars depending on the dealership. A sales persons makes commission on everything over invoice. the Dealership will make the same regardless.

what you think your buying at, or below invoice isn't what they pay for the car, they always make money on a car the dealer and the lot both make money, there's two different sets of papers on every car the actual cost of it,and the cost the want you to believe they have in it,you,ll never know exactly what the have in any car they sell, good luck hope this helps.

Can't speak for all dealerships, but the one my hubby works @, the salesperson only makes $100, which really stinks, but that's the way it is.

mario is close. not all vehicles have 'spin' checks associated with them. also 'spins' come and go throughout the year. the lot i have worked at for 3 years would pay me 125 bucks for a 'mini' or minimum deal. i don't get paid on your undercoat, your spray in liner, window tint or any other accessory that you choose, nor do i get paid on any product that you buy from the finance man (warranty, GAP insurance, etc) until i have a set amount of units rolling, and then it's not by the dollar, but what my total gross is compared to the other salesmen in my company. i only get frontside commissions. granted the dealership still makes money on each deal. they should. the dealership has to pay the electric bill, advertise, and at my lot, pay over 100 people their wages. the cost of doing business is not cheap. to be honest, i feel sticker price is a fair price, even though no one pays sticker in the end. the sales person will make a small stipend for selling an invoice deal. this is where my salesmanship and skills come in to play. in the end, it's not up to the salesman how much you buy a car for, it's up to the sales manager. what is up to the salesman, however, is learning how to properly present his product so that this issue doesn't come in to play on every car deal. a decent sales person with good people skills and a solid knowledge of his product will make a decent living.
