Is my vehicle a rebuilt title?

Can someone claim a stolen vehicle after you bout it with a rebuilt title?

  • I want to buy this Accord because it is being sold at a dealer for such a great price. I checked the carfax and it seems as if an old person owned it because they barely put miles on it since 2008. It is unknown why its a rebuilt title except the dealer says its rebuilt title because it was stolen. This I believe because it had one owner who barely drover it which is probably an old guy and died, then it was stolen. My question is, if I buy it, can a person claim it as their car because it was stolen. Lets say maybe the old guy who previously owned it.

  • Answer:

If it has a rebuilt title because it was stolen the original owner was already notified and decided to let it go. You are fine.

No. the car was paid off by the insurance company, the old owners have a new car & no interest in the old car. Such cars are called "theft recoveries". Many dealers SAY that rebuilt wrecks are theft recoveries because it sounds better than had to pick brains out of the upholstery.

Never

Seems fishy too me. Most of the time when a car is stolen, it is on a carfax report as stolen.
