When's the best time to buy a brand new car?

When is the best time to buy a brand new car? Any certain holidays or months?? HELP!!?

  • Answer:

When the newest cars come out, the previous years vehicles always go down in price, plus they want them off the lots to make room for the newest cars. If you don't need the newest model year you can still get a new car for lower prices. In my personal opinion, though, you should buy a car that's been traded in that's a year old or so. You can get a lot more for your money and the value of a brand new car drops like a stone as soon as you drive it off the lot. Brand new cars are, almost without exception, terrible investments.

There doesn't seem to be any specific time anymore for buying a new car. Usually, towards the end of a model year, there are more rebates on them. But then again, that same car was depreciating in a way while sitting on the lot, too. The car business seems to be all about the rebates now. If you see a car you like, need a car, and the there is some rebate on the car...what is waiting another month or two going to do for you? Save maybe $0-$1,000? These days, waiting until rebate "max out" and selection is minimal...you could end up missing out on the one you want and ending up with one with different package. ONE additional option could add $500 a price. People try to be so scientific and studious in car shopping and turn it into a part-time job...what is YOUR time worth? I happen to sell cars and it sometimes sickens me to see a family spend 6 months shopping for a car...to maybe save $1,000. During that 6 months, they dragged their bored kids around to several dealerships, wasted quality/fun time on the weekends, and frustrated themselves in the process. I don't make a ton of money, but time with my family is worth more to me than than saving a little money on a car that I only buy every 5 years or so... Some say Presidents Day Weekend is some magical time of year, but it seems in recent years that automakers are tossing out their rebates year-round instead of reserving them for holidays...
