Difference between Manufacturers Warranty and Carmax Warranty?

• Hey there, I am 17 and my car just died. My mom says I have a set price range to use, but I need to have a warranty on the car. I went to carmax and found some that say "Manufacturers Warranty xxxxxx" .. but some of the cars didnt have anything but an option for some CarMax Extended.. What is the difference? Are they the same? I just need to have a good warranty my mother will trust kind of deal I guess.

  The manuacturers warranty is free for the consumer and is usually in place for 3 years, 36K miles from the original date of service. Kia, Mitsubishi and Hyundai offer 5 year, 60K mile manufacturer warranty. A 'Carmax extended' is an extended warranty you can purchase to extend protection. They vary on what the cover and cost. Personal opinion - Whatever you decide to buy, go have it inspected by a professional mechanic for $80-$100 and pass on the extended warranty. Think about it logically - If Extended warranties were worth the cost, then CarMax (or any 3rd party seller) would be losing money. Trust me, Carmax will NEVER be involved in a transaction that doesn't make them tons of money.
