Would you buy a car with a rebuilt title?
-
I am interested in buying a car with a rebuilt title. I was told the car had collinsion damage with the passenage side door and it has been repaired. The car has no leaks and it runs great. It is a 1997 car and has 91000 miles on it. The retail valve according the kelly blue book is 2025 for fair. It is being sold for 1800 or below. Still trying to neg. the price. How much would you pay for it and would you buy a car with a rebuilt title. Do you know if an insurance company will cover an rebuilt car?

Answer:
Personally, I wouldn't buy any car with a rebuilt title. Let alone to get it insured, and even titled and registered, in the state you are in might be a legal nightmare as well. Do some research on the insurance side, and the DMV portion, then it would still be up to you on that one.

Not unless I was looking for parts, not for something to drive. Insurance companies are loathe to insure cars with rebuilt or salvage titles, and will NOT allow you to purchase collision coverage. Should someone damage it and accept blame for it, their insurance will not give you fair market value because of the branded title, and will usually opt for 50% of that. If you are still interested, offer a grand, and walk away if they say no.

I live in the State of Iowa and have owned several car with "salvage" title on them.. i have found them to be good cars for the money they run well.. yes there maybe a few little things you might notice.. like a panel might look a little differnt color in the sunlight etc.. As long as the Frame was not bent or the car was not severly damaged they are fine.. Generly speaking they are only worh about 66% of retal value.. So i would say 1300 to 1500 is a good value for this car.. Also i have never had probles insuring a salvage tite car.. I currently own a 2004 chevy malibu witha salvage title. I Purchased the car with 50,000 miles on it and it currenty has 130,000 all i have done is change oil, tires and brakes.......
