What is the cheapest car to insure for your first car?

  • im going to be hopefully doing my driving test in mayish and im just wondering what would be the the cheapest car to insure, im looking for something a little decent but i just need a few ideas of whats avaliable with these:- - 5 door car - Hatchback - Buying used car price- under £1,000 - Cheap insurance, maintenance and tax - Power Steering - Automatic taa for any help/advice

    There are actually lots of them that would be the same price to insure. You need to try to stick to the following - under 1.2 litre - not a "Sport" type variant - not modified in any way from the way it left the factory - from 5 to 9 years old (newer and older cars cost more to insure) - parked off the road at your home at night - you not being a student or unemployed and having a normal full time job.

The 'automatic' bit will really limit you in the small cars you'll be after as a new driver. If you're not disabled I'd really advise you go for a manual. Probably things like Corsa, Fiesta, Clio, Yaris etc, but you're pushing it for a grand, and you DO realise the insurance is going to be £3000+, don't you?
