Is a higher or lower impulse better for car crashes?

Has any one ever bought a car on impulse, and realize later that its really not the car you prefer....?

  • don’t get me wrong, its not like I bought a lemon. The Kia Sportage I just bought is good, but I realize that I should of looked around. I decided to walk into the dealer and ask if they do credit checks. because my credit is terrible. But I end up buy the vehicle. I even tried to take it back within 3 days, but their are no laws protecting my from buying a car on a As Is contract. I feel so dumb and regretful. I just needed a quick fix for the car I traded in, which had a cracked head. If spent so much money for a car, I should have looked around first. I realize that I really don’t want t standard, truck, I wanted an automatic economic car. Man I wish I looked around first.

Do not feel alone...All people make purchases based on emotion. The emotion that you had at the time contained the following compilation 1- You knew you had less than 'perfect credit' walking in to the dealer. Bad idea...the banks want you more than you want them...You got the loan, didn't you? 2- You were probably frustrated with the vehicle you currently owned. You will also get the same feeling later on in life with your Kia. 3- you are probably like most people and didn't want to hagle with the dealer. Who wants to argue; just be realistic with me. Buyer beware...It may not be with a vehicle the next time you will buy something on impulse. You may want to recognize that when you research most things that are considered to be a 'substantial purchases', like a vehicle, you will find valuable information that will most likely create a new emotion, which will help you make the best decision for your particular curcumstance long term. Don't feel bad!!

Yes I bought a mini van , I wish I bought something more sporty or fuel efficient.

Heads up!

I have only done this, oh, three or four times now. Seriously. But at least I didn't buy a Kia. What were you thinking ? Don't worry too much about it. Keep it for 2 years then sell. Next time buy an ex government lease car from the auctions, you'll get much better value for money and some even come with balance of warranty.

I did the same thing. I went in with my MOM, when she needed a car. We ended up going back together the next day to pick up BOTH our cars. LOL (FYI, my husband and I did need a new car, but we hadn't attempted to buy one yet. When I went with my mom, he talked me into it. I would have chosen a different vehicle, had I taken more time to think about it.)

You answered your own question - you should have looked around first. I've never bought a car on impulse, it's too big an investment to make a quick decision on. But that relies on the person's maturity level and responsibility. Impulse buying is NEVER good! For anything. Why would anyone NOT want to make an informed decision? Never listen to any salesman saying " this deal won't last"....there's ALWAYS another deal next week, month, or year (or at another dealer). How many advertisements do you hear on TV or radio? " THis one won't last" ? Of course it won't! There'll be another one soon after! Stop giving in to impulsive purchases, and wait for the right deal. Sometimes you have no choice, and have to buy a car for a job, etc. if yours breaks down suddenly...but you should plan for the NEXT vehicle, and be ready to make an informed decision should you need another one.

A Kia? Man. Better just drive that thing off a cliff and start over. A Kia? Oh man. Put a for sale in the paper NOW before you stop too fast at a red light and the engine falls out. Oh damn. You bought a Kia? That means "crap car" in Korean. Damn. After you put your ad in the paper, start looking for a pizza delivery job at night, cause that thing is going to bleed your bank account dry faster than swinging a headless chicken in church. I bought a used Kia once and spent six months taking the bus to the dealer to make the payments.

that stinks, but i've worked in the car business for years and had alot of people come in with vehicles they bought on impulse. some people weren't "too bad" off because of the make they bought, but a kia sportage has a poor resale value. try taking it back to the dealership and trading it for a different kia.

Yep, I do it on a regular basis, get sick of looking around and buy what ever is available, then a few days later wonder why I bought it. It's probably a natural feeling after an expensive purchase. And as for the Kia, definitely not the worst car around.
