Question for car sales people-?

Question for people in car sales... Are dealers less or more likely to haggle compared to 5 or 10 years ago?

  • I just bought a car and it seems like all the dealers were reluctant to come down on price or even at all. Maybe it was just my particular car model, but several years ago it seemed like people were getting all sorts of deals because of the economy. Just wondering....

  • Answer:

Most dealers are always open to haggling. They always want to make money. Its no different now than 5-10 years ago. Now, deep in the middle of the recession when business was very, very slow, they might have sold a few cars for slightly smaller profit margins than normal.

i'm not in sales, but I think that it is just pain rude and insulting if a shop keeper or car dealer does not engage in negotiations. As a consumer I have to protect my bottom line too! haggling is the primary way I do that.

Consider it like this: They're here to make money. It's a business. The more they haggle with you, the less money they make. Which means less money to bring home. Which means they suffer from the economy, just like everyone else. Me personally, I never haggle with anyone. At all. A price tag is a price tag. I'm not a flea market. I don't "have" to sell my vehicles. And I've had plenty of people try to make offers on my cars, and I've had them escorted off my lot for wasting my time.
