What is type of the road?

What's the best type of vehicle for a very bad track road?

  • I live in a very mountainous area with an extremely bad road. It's not paved, not remotely even, and parts of the road have huge rocks sticking out of it. The neighbours around us just can't seem to get along to fix it. What suggestions do you have for a vehicle (that won't beak down in a year)?

  • Answer:

A used 4x4 Jeep would be my answer. All the recent models are small (even the new Commander isn't much bigger than my 98 Cherokee) so they are easy to manouver through crap roads. They also normally have nearly a foot of ground clearance so as not to drag the chassis if driving in ruts, and without any kind of lift kit you can put 31" mud tires on them to "float" over the mud instead of cutting into it. Finally they've got good torque and 4L for the really bad spots, look up "rock crawling" to see what I mean.

Any modern full-size 4X4 truck should do the job, but they're expensive to buy, and get really poor gas mileage.
