How much should I ask for my 96 Honda Civic?
-
Hey everyone. I have a green 96 Honda Civic, 4-cyl, hot custom body kit, 5-speed, power everything, sunroof, cd player and amp, 2 door. I have had it for a year w/ no problems, but it is a rebuild. My husband and I just put new tires and (silver) rims on it in December, costed us $800. When we bought it we got it through a friend who rebuilt it, for about $3000, custom body kit was $300. It has alot of miles on it, like 165000. We need to sell it and get a family car. So I'm wondering how much I should ask for it and how I should go about selling it. Should I put it in the paper, or just drive around w/ a for sale sticker and my # in the window? oh, and i don't know if this makes any difference but we just put a new fuel injector system and spark plugs in it. Nice interior, good paint job. ummm, I dunno much about cars so if there is any info that I am missing just ask and I will do my best to answer. Your help is really appreciated!!!

Answer:
The typical mileage for this vehicle, even with the rebuilt engine (I'm assuming, or is it the transmission?), is about 88,000 miles. When you get into the 150,000 mile range, most people expect cars to start failing on you, and fear buying the "lemon." Kelly Blue Book says your car is worth about $4,935. So... I'd say drive it around with the For Sale signs in the window and put a sales tag on it for $3500 Or Best Offer (OBO). When offers start coming in, keep track of them, and when a certain date of your choosing comes around, sale it to the highest offer.

You should check the blue book price online, I think it will help you. You could probably Google it to find the website. Ever though it sounds like a nice car, and you've put alot into it. It's 11 years old, and has 165,000 miles. I would guess it could go for $2500 - $3000. Good Luck!

it depends on its condicion. if is in great shape give it 16,000 but any lower and give it 10,000 and in that range

Go to www.kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book). I just checked the price myself from the information that you supplied. If it is in excellent condition you can get up to $4800.00. I've learned from experience that no matter what has been added or repaired makes little difference. But I recommend this site to everybody. I have a friend that wanted to trade in his Toyota Corolla, but he didn't know how much to expect for his tradein. We went to KBB and got the value of his car on tradein. The dealer tried to give him close to $700 dollars less, but after showing the dealer what we found he gave him the amount his car was worth. I hope this will help.

It's best if you go to www.kbb.com They can give you an accurate price for your area. Also they tell you how much you can get from trading it in, selling it privately (person to person).

Well all depend where you at, I can tell you for a car in the condiction described by you in a city such as Orlando, you could get aleast $4500.00 But because of the year and mileage, is very posible you only get $3000.00 in other place. That if doesn't get stole first. Is one of America most stollen car.

The Kelley's Blue book value website will help you find the basic standardized value of a car. http://www.kbb.com/. In addition, with all the extra trimmings you put into the car, casually ask several mechanics (but don't sell it to them) and average out the prices or just go high and work the numbers down if there are few interested buyers.
