Friends art vs my life?

  • Hi. I'm 19 and in college. My best friend/roommate is a photography major. I agreed to pose for her for a class project/portfolio last semester to save money. The portfolio included one indoor portrait, one outdoor portrait, one head shot, one action shot, one "glamour" shot, and one nude. I agreed to do this because I was assured that only the professor and the teachers assistant would see the images. She not only got an A, but they asked to nominate her portfolio for a local art grant/award. I agreed to let her apply for that as well, because only the award committee would see the photos. Well, guess which photo won the award? The nude. This is a major break for my roommate. She would get money, exposure, and a great line on a resume. But in order to take the award, she has to agree to let the image go on display at the local art gallery. I am not overly modest or prudish, and I do think that the photo totally 100% constitutes art (which I support). But I have never posed nude before, don't see myself ever posing nude again, and am more than a little scared of having my photo hanging for all to see in a gallery. Scared crapless is more like it. On the other hand, this is a HUGE opportunity for her. And I knew this was a possibility when I let her apply for the award (even if it seemed an unlikely one). What do I do?!?!

Yes, let her work be displayed at the gallery. It will be good for her and you both. I see that some people have dissed you for posing, but they are short minded people. As long as your not doing pron pics you will be fine. If you have what it takes, then use it. That doesn't mean that you loose your modesty or your moral standards. Good Luck.
