What is PLL digital tuning?

Guitar tuning? 1/2 step down or drop D tuning?

  • I currently have my guitar tuned 1/2 a step down because most of the songs i play are played that way. Currently, i am playing some Nirvana songs that are drop D tuning. I dont want to retune my guitar every 5 minutes when i change songs. The Nirvana songs are Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies. Would they sound ok in 1/2 a step down tuning? I know it wont sound 100% like the album but im ok with that. Also, what tuning did Kurt Cobain / Pat Smear use when they played live?

  • Answer:

Drop D tuning is definitely a different sound so, no they are not going to sound the same. Similar yes. But, now you know why performing musicians have more than one guitar on stage. If I were you I would try playing whatever you want in 1/2 step down and see if that sound ok you. The other alternative is to get a Roland GR-55 Guitar Synthesizer because you can program it to adjust the tuning on your guitar electronically and switch tunings with a stomp pedal on the unit. Very cool indeed. Check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_wGIbgQ0hE&feature=related
