What are some good guitar sheet music books?

Fingerstyle Guitar Books?

  • I've been getting into fingerstyle on my guitar and I'm sick of looking for tabs on the internet because not whole bunch of people have ones that I can do or they are just to hard for my skill level. I was going to purchase a book by Mark Hanson (not sure which one) but, I was wondering if these instructional books include tabs in the arrangements? I'm self taught and although I can read sheet music I have no idea what the actual notes are on the guitar. So basically I would need a book that included tabs but, since I've never purchased a fingerstyle book I dont know if they are included in the arrangements. So basically my two questions are do fingerstyle instructional books include tabs and if they do, does anyone recommend any certain books?

  • Answer:

The most basic book for learning fingerstyle is Carcassi's Classical Guitar Method. It's been used for centuries to train classical guitarists, and uses regular musical notation. It's the way I learned, and I'm so grateful for it, because I can READ MUSIC, and translate it into sound. I'm still learning tab, but usually I just listen to a song and apply what ol' Matteo (and Basil Gural) taught me. PRESTO! I can play it!
