Suggestions/constructive criticism on my NHS application essay?
-
If you could just give me suggestions or anything helpful, that would be great! I can't add any too it, since it has to be under 400 words. :\ Thank you! As a sophomore, I witnessed the National Honor Society induction ceremony at my local high school. Since that evening, I have strived to be an exemplary citizen and student. Currently, s a junior at 21st Century Cyber Charter School, I have truly come to understand the concepts of scholarship, service, leadership, and overall character. Through volunteer work in the community, dedication to my education, and even simply maintaining good character, I have achieved, and exceeded, the expectations of a member of the National Honor Society. As a committed student, I have strived to work above and beyond the basic standards of education. By taking initiative in my education, striving for excellence, and maintaining high academic achievement, I am proven to be a scholarly student. For example, towards the end of the 2010-2011 school year, I fell ill and was unable to attend classes at my traditional high school. Homebound, and with no supplementary education, I was determined to not only meet, but also exceed the academic expectations set for me. I pursued private tutoring and continued my studies into July – resolute to succeed in my classes. With hard work, my academic goal became a reality. Throughout life, I have been committed to serving and helping others – especially in the community. With countless Sunday mornings volunteered in my church’s nursery, to mission trips in South America, to even volunteering my entire holiday break to working in a food bank, I am incredibly dedicated to serving others. Not only have I committed countless hours to volunteering in the community, but I am a strong leader within the community. My leadership positions have always been positions that administer direction. With numerous leadership positions held throughout the community, I have made sure that my role is of positive impact. Whether it be my role as president of the Community Outreach Program, in helping those in need, or my position as Student Coach for the local track team, facilitating in the success of middle school students in the community, and even as a volunteer tutor for students struggling with ADHD – I am committed to being a strong, positive leader in the community. From my scholarship, service, and leadership, I am a student and citizen of true character. Through NHS, I know that my character and good qualities can only be expanded upon, but I hope to be allowed the opportunity to be included in a society of such prestige.
