What are some recent art contests in Southern California?

Art Academies in California that are equivalent to the teachings at the Grand Central Academy of Art?

  • I would really like to attend an art school in California. The kind that teach you how to seriously draw and paint. None of the hoity toity, lets throw paint at a canvas stuff... (no offense if you're into that kind of stuff.) I really like the teachings that are done at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York, but I personally cannot handle the big city life of New York. Are there any art academies or even universities in California that will teach and give me the same information as I would learn at the Grand Central Academy of Art? PS I would really prefer one in Southwestern California, but anywhere in California is fine with me. PSS And don't tell me I wont make it as an artist, I have already heard all of those lines. PSSS Thank you.

Hi Shelby, I do not know of any ateliers in CA but I could recommend a school in the village of Southern Pines, NC. Not the big city life of NY. When you get a chance go to academyofclassicaldesign.com. Jeffrey Mims is a very gifted artist and teacher. I have been attending the school for just over a year now and LOVE it.!! If you are unsure to make such a big move, the school has a summer program that would give you a good feel for the curriculum. If you are looking for a school of serious drawing and painting in a quiet atmosphere, this is the school for you. Good luck on your hunt. Carmen
