What does art develop?

How can I develop my art?

  • Basically, I have started my art GCSE, and chosen a project called 'Contrasts'. Basically, contrasts like young and old, rich and poor, old and new, war and peace, life and death etc. I have a cover page, and some artist research on Simon Norfolk in my sketchbook so far. Any ideas on how I can develop this project? E.g taking photos (if so of what) Any help would be appreciated!

  • Answer:

I'm doing gcse art too, my project is water. Look through magazines, if your parents buy a newspaper there is often a free magazine that comes with that so you don't need to go and buy a magazine. The Or anywhere with pictures. The times magazine often has stuff on war. Cut/rip out photos you like which give you inspiration, they don't need to be particularly relevant to your topic but give you inspiration. Stick these in your sketch book and write what you like about it and try to work this into your art. Also try to work aspects of an artist you have studied into your art. (I am doing David Hockney at the moment, he uses interesting patterns to represent the water in his paintings, I am going to use similar patterns in my art). When I read contrast it reminded me of the 'Two scavangers in a truck, two beautiful people in a mercedes' poem, look this up. (Did this poem last year). You could paint/draw the scene described in the poem. For development you need to note down in your sketchbook any ideas you have (why you like an inspirational photo, why you want to use an aspect of an artist's style etc). When you do artist research or a piece of art, take what you like from that (write this in your sketcbook) and some inspiration you got from something and merge these in you next piece and repeat this process. For my inspiration I look through magazines, look through books (in my case books on water, you could look through books on war), search stuff on google images and ask my family for books they have on art that I can look through, pick out what I like and use this. I also take photo's of water when I go sailing and wherever I go I take a camera to take a photo of anything that inspires me or I like or something I could paint/draw. Or just take my phone to take photos on. I suggest you do this and whenever you see something good take a photo of it, don't just forget about it
