What makes a good paralegal?

What do you think makes art good?

  • I'm not a really "good artist" I just had to take art in order to graduate. We have to write a paragraph on what we think makes art good? In my opinion, I feel that if you actually work hard on a piece of work and TRY, it makes it good. But if you don't even try and its crap, then its not good. I also believe that good art doesn't have to necessarily look "pretty" It just needs to provoke thought.

  • Answer:

I think similar to yourself but I think if the artist 'feels' something and conveys that into their art. It doesn't have to be pretty or look like a photograph......but there is nothing wrong with that if that is what the artists wants to do. I also think the persons art can be so many things. There is painting, drawing, sculpture etc etc but I think even a pretty or clever garden or jewellery. Art doesn't have to appeal to everyone either. There was a piece a couple of yearsago called 'The unmade bed' and it did nothing for me but it totally blew a friend of mine away.

You're on the right track with your beliefs. Some people have this "aesthetics for the sake of aesthetics" approach to art where they make technically fabulous work, but is void of anything, like the soul of the art itself. On the other hand there is something meaningful in beautiful things, but I feel a deeper meaning to it is important. Impressionists wanted to break the mold of traditional art by focusing on beauty and light and creating an emotional expression of the world they see. Dadaist and surrealist tend not to focus of technical virtuosity but challenging norms of what art is and/or creating a subtext to their piece. Some artist create on the impulses, letting their subconscious flow through them; others are meticulous about it. Art to me is based solely upon my experience of it. I can think one thing is art and something else is kitsch without any real basis other than what I "feel." I don't care if critics or famous intellectuals say something is or is not art. I have no solid criteria, though I appreciate emotional, realism, meaningful, deep, beautiful (like Ah beauty), political, and most importantly moving (to me). If something can inspire me, it's art.

Not your first idea! Sorry, but there is no "E for effort", let alone an "A"! Sure, you've gotta try, and keep trying. But that's so the result will BECOME good. Your first attempts will probably be rubbish. Wouldn't it be odd if they weren't? If your school is silly enough to think this question can be answered in a paragraph, run with your second idea. But be aware that the question's been discussed for as long as there's BEEN art, and no-one's come up with the answer yet!

Art is good if it excites your senses, is able to cause your eye to easily step into it and travel throughout, if it has some meaning to it that interests and to me, it must have drama

ok, it doesn't any special matter, you are not a good artist, I think your common senses, beliefs, feelings, love makes the art so pretty.
