What do I need to do to get an A or A* in GCSE Art?
-
Hi, I need help. I study GCSE Art, and I'm predicted a B, but I want to achieve higher. My teacher doesn't explain to us what exactly we need to do to ensure those higher grades. I've been trying to make numerous artworks but my time is wasted and I feel that I haven't produced enough work. I'm getting really frustrated, and yes, I do regret picking Art. Since I am okay at drawing/sketching and painting, there must be something that I'm not doing right, to have only gotten a B. Here's a couple of drawings I've done, in case you need it to help you answer the question and make a judgment. http://twitpic.com/8kcvfj http://twitpic.com/8kcxkd Please help, my exams are in March!! :o Thanks :)

Answer:
There are four assessment objectives: Observational drawings Artist studies Development Final piece You need to produce loads of work. Annotate thoroughly and let the examiner know exactly what you're thinking. The quality needs to be high and show deep understanding. For instance when you do an artist study: Write what you like and dislike What you think the artist is trying to show Annotations need to show understanding, so don't focus on their biography Copy some of there work - this can be a section of a painting or drawing of one of their sculptures (It's entirely up to you) Apply their technique or style to your work Hope this helps °*•.•*‐̥̊•Šɱɪɭɛ•‐̥̊*•.•*°

I'm doing GCSE Art too and in the mock I achieved an A the first time and a B the second time. Make sure you have lots of observational drawings to work from (drawings from infront of you) and annotate them or make a mind map on another page about what you can do with these pictures. Choose an artist, which your teacher will probably do and use their pattern, idea and technique whilst linking it with the subject (which I'm guessing is Ordinary and Extraordinary like us). Make sure that you annotate most drawings and ideas that you do with at least a paragraph of notes. You'll also need to do research and study on the artist make this thorough and explain the use of pattern and tone etc. You're quality of work is good so you don't have to worry about that. Also make sure that you experiment with lots of media, 3D stuff too (like clay, paper mache etc) and do lots of 2D work (oil pastel, paintings, lino). Good luck :)
