None of the commercialism around art is anything to do with art . If no one ever gets their work sold then that is still art. I fear many sales techniques are applied to art see Saatchi buying up new talents 's art work and being the sole buyer and warehousing it. Its all a bit smelly that the worth of a pice has little or nothing to do with anything other than commerce - In this way it is no different to pop music being hyped by agents etc.
