Some do it as a retreat from past emotional trauma or pain that they have chosen not to deal effectively with. Some do so in a misguided spiritual pursuit that rather than uniting them will all others shut all others out. Some begin to withdraw from others due to personal problems, such as terminal illnesses and not wishing to be a burden to those whom they love. Regardless of their reasons for doing so, each has made a choice and is receiving the consequences of said choice and the actions that followed the same.
