Colleges/Universities for Music?

Anyone else believe music is a dying art?

  • This isn't aimed at all music there's still a good amount of genuine bands. Thing is whats pissing me of is music seems to have changed dramatically over the last 10 or so years. The music industry has always been a major opening for advertisements i.e.pop icons, rock stars etc. BUT it seems more like that now than ever. Its like all I ever see is a grup of guys or a girl in there early 20s or late teens you can tell by the way they dress the way they act and the way they look that these people WEREN'T social recluses or outcasts now I know that you don't have to have a totally **** life to have something to sing about but with one look you can tell these guys (and girls) don't have much to express compared to a large selection of people. SO why are they famous if they haven't got a really terrible and emotional life story. Well they were popular with people, funny, GOOD LOOKING (a major one in the industry) and those alone are all they need to get in the music business. Oh and a very basic knowledge of music. Now i'll be honest I'm not a social recluse thats jealous or anything I just miss the days when you would see someone messy or unusual get up on stage and blast out passion and emotion and you know that this guy (or girl) has had it hard and has something to say its that kind of power, emotion and passion that I miss seing, that loner at the back of the class getting up there and showing people something that you wouldn't expect it makes it ten times better, as opposed to some cheesy boy band thats been accepted into the music industry and skilled up by someone to perfect there sound (since it lacks the passion and emotion of real music everything has to be perfect) On that not my view on real music is it doesn't have to be perfect vocals don't have to be performed by an angel and the guitar doesn't need to be a flashy one worthy of satans brilliant guitar skills. It seems people are obsessed with perfection in music now I think because people have forgotten its about passion and desperately try to copy the perfect image of a rockstar the media has painted for them. If its real music with passion it doesn't need to be perfect that's the beauty of music. Overall my point is whats seems to be getting worse is how people are lulled into the trap the media built where instead of appreciating music they look at the person playing what there wearing how they look and decide "I want to look like that" so they buy clothes based on that image and fashion mags hosting that image. Its not about the music anymore its about whats advertised with the so called "music". The music industry is rapidly turning into and another advertisement.

  • Answer:

The day the music died. The crash that took the lives of three current rock legends: Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper, so now Feb. 3, 1959 is called "The day the music died." The music that died is considered the standard rock & roll songs. The crash was the final blow («--keyword) to this music 'cause these three were that only major artists left. Elvis was drafted, Little Richard (or "Little Dick") turned gospel, and Chuck Berry was arrested for screwin' a prostitute..!

I agree with you; real music is a dying art. It has come down to making lots and lots of money. I guess you could say that it started in the 1950s when every time there was a singer or group that exploded on to the scene, every record producer had someone that was similar because that was what everyone wanted to listen to. It has been that way ever since. With the advent of MTV in the 1980s, everyone had to look glamorous because that was what was selling. Nobody bought anything from someone who looked homely, though the music might be better. It is all about flash and no substance. There are exception to the rules, but mostly today for every Norah Jones' there are several Britney Spears' or Jessica Simpson's. It is sad that money is the key, but it is a business and businesses need to make money.

Music has progressed through the years and changes are sometimes hard to accept. Groups like Westlife, Take That and individuals like Leona Lewis may not have the hard grittiness of the older formats mentioned but they still add something to music culture. Yes there are a lot of bland nobodies out there but there are some very good musicians/singers as well.

i know what you mean. i really like the hard rock metal bands of today. because usually they have everything so well worked together, and it was written BY THEM!! like bullet for my valentine, theyre music is really good, and they write it all them selves and play like a real band. or Avenged Sevenfold, the musical talent it takes to create all their unusual, but amazing harmonies, must be immense. i dont like pop though. thats where it goes down || hill. its all full of random beats and repeated lyrics!! \|| / V

nay the'll find some new ones everyday !!

I have to agree. I love seeing bands from the 70s where they are all hideously ugly and extremely talented, not some simpering pretty boys who can barely pick up a guitar. Music skills have gone down the toilet - the kind of bands that 20 years were considered mediocre had much better music skills than the top bands today.
