Should people have to pass a drug screen to get public assistance. Why, or Why not.?

  • Like a lot of folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit. In order to get that paycheck some employers require employees to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their ***, and buy dope and booze with my hard earned money. Could you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? If we added a mandatory rehab for those who fail, give em a couple of chances to do better before kicking them to the street, I think it would work. You?

i agree .. people drawing welfare should have to pass a drug test.. but it will never happen.. democrats rely on those types of people for votes.. and they will never let that pass

Im in total agreement with you.Some people do have jobs that are on assistance, they are just considered low income and cant meet their needs, I have no problem helping either. But the ones abusing the system that we are supporting does bother me. They couldnt pass a urine test so why even apply for a job? This definitely should have some regulation. I work hard to earn what I earn, where do they get the money for drugs? I dont have that kind of extra money, lol Seriously, its a major problem in this country and a urine test is an excellent idea!

I agree 100%. I used to work in a little mom and pop store, because of our location (a business area but rather shoty part of town) we had many people come in who were and welfair. One day a lady came in with 5 children (all her's, with obvious various fathers). She told the kids that they were getting dinner there...roman noodles (really nothing wrong with them especially when you can by the whole family dinner on a dollar). When she got to the register she also wanted some alcohol. However when I rang things up, she was 55 cents short. Rather than putting the alcohol back, she put the ramon back. I could have DIED. And I probably gave her the look too. When one of the children said "What are we having for dinner now?" and she said "I dont know." Like it really didnt matter, I could not control myself. I gave her the money...all 55 cents. I hated it, I hated giving her the money for making a poor decision, but i didnt feel that her kids should have to suffer. There is a serious problem with this program. Though its getting better and in some cases only approved food can be bought with the money (like the WIC program), we still have a long way to go.
