Why aren't men concerned about the big issues that affect them?
-
Specifically, why aren't we making a lot more noise about (1) the life expectancy differential between men and women (the ultimate sex discrimination); (2) the incredible suicide rate for men, especially young men, which is several times higher than for women: and (3) the incredible differential between men and women in the commission of violent crimes. It seems that if we can't blame women for something that affects males, we don't even talk about it. Shouldn't we be more concerned with these three issues that are uniquely male issues?

Answer:
I love the point your question makes, and I would also like to see each of those three items discussed in separate questions. My first thought on life expectancy was that it is so closely correlated with lifestyle choices, how can you blame anyone but the individual? But then I thought about societal expectations, and the stress level of certain occupations, the social conditioning of males to repress their feelings, etc . and I realized that it's NOT simply individual choices that create a differential in life expectancy. What CAN be done to address this issue?

This is true. None of the three things you mention can possibly be blamed on women. Women are out trying to improve their lot, while men are sitting back oblivious to the elephant in the room, the issues that truly need attention -- and the three things you mention are damned big elephants.

Your overall question is 'why'...and the basic answer is found in the nature of men in general. Men don't gather to discuss their plight, and they certainly are not going to form a group about it. This is a distinctively female trait....to raise the awareness of others about their problems...not a male trait.

I can make a decent case for blaming feminism for both (1) and (2). Both are complained about as well. The suicide rates are complained about on the wikipedia page for masculism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masculism "increasing suicide rate among young men, four times higher than among young women; (73% of all suicide deaths are white males in the United States; In the United States, more women than men report a history of attempted suicide, with a gender ratio of 3:1)" In the early 1900s men had a longer life expectancy than women. Money was poured into medical research for female issues such as death in child birth and that changed the life expectancy. Where's the money for research into male issues? If young men are constantly told they are worthless, evil abusers that might have an impact on whether they commit suicide or not. As for no.3, it's not even a gender issue.. I'm divided on it anyway. If we created a pacifist culture, we could easily get overrun by other more violent cultures.. I'm not certain a have an ENORMOUS problem with men being more violent than women because as long as I am able to defend myself I can just do that. Additionally male violence was formerly managed by other men quite well by means such as military service, establishing hierarchies, values such as honor. A lot of these means have been lost in recent years (feminism again). I'd also much rather be beaten up than lose my house and end up a wage slave for the rest of my life, or get thrown in jail for a crime I didn't commit.

Yes... men have it harder in life. No one feels sorry for us and everyone blames us for everything. Like the troopers we are.. we just deal with it, but some men can't and it causes problems. This is why I get so annoyed when women cry and whine and complain about the littlest and stupidest things. EDIT: That was sarcasm

Point (2) is about suicide rate for men, for which all reasons except financial ones can be attributed to societies mentality towards adult males. Point (3) is about crimes and punishment. In these two matters it should be noted that not only feminists but in fact most women actively perpetuate wrong concepts and standards for young adult men. This is the major cause for these disparities. Feminists and most women should do something about this habit of theirs and society as a whole should make a stop to this.

You do realize that the examples you give can all be attributed to feminized laws and feminized attitudes. Life expectancy this is a problem that has many facets but it is said stress related illness is the #1 killer in the western world. Feminism certainly causes a lot of stress a man has to wonder if when he comes home from work if he will still have a home or his children or even the means to secure a new place to live. We have to worry if a woman is going to make a false allegation of DV or rape against us we have to worry if the children we are supporting are even ours. When you are belittled from birth by the females around you it tends to make a person less likely to want to live and these same young men see fathers being pushed out of their children's lives I would say it leads to a general feeling of both self loathing and hopelessness. And as for violent crime yes men do commit more than women do and I think feminism has only a small part to play in that as can masculism or any other ideology. So basically you can attempt to deflect all of the bad things that feminism has brought onto men if you want which makes me believe you are a real judge. But most people have taken their heads out of the sand and are seeing these tactics for what they are.

It's not that men are not concerned but men don't voice themselves, what you should be more concerned about above these three is prostate cancer....don't worry about the "petty" things, these are important but they are all statistical. Worry more about the things you may have to deal with other than the things that have been for decades...
