Help making a Research Paper Thesis Question on Sociology of The Family?

• My research paper is basically on the impacts of gender norms on families and I am not sure how to come up with a question on the impacts of gender norms on families , which has to be 8 pages long. my instructor said for example, "The impact of gender norms and how they impact children future 'or' life' or 'Childs development.' " if that is the case what would you write about? what question would you be arguing/answering in your research paper?... I am stuck because I do not know how to articulate a 9 page paper answering one question.

  Possible questions might look at how assumed gender roles shape family dynamics. You could talk about lots of stereotypes and gender roles (men have to be tough, work outside, bread-winners, athletic, don't do housework, and women raise children, are submissive, do housework, cook, don't work outside the home). All of these things, right or wrong, have a lot of effect on the household and the dynamics of the family. However, it sounds to me like you're having more trouble with the length than the topic itself. I'd say, as one broad question, then break it down into several smaller questions or issues. Spend a few paragraphs on each gender role you want to discuss. The describe the effects. Then describe implications. Then summarize. Throw some examples in too.
