What are some examples of stereotypes?

Can someone give me examples on how the media uses racial stereotypes to enforce their ways of entertainment?

  • I just need examples of ways that the media has used racial slurs and stereotypes so that it benefits their shows/movies/etc. i.e. Asian ladies are always shown working in nail salons; for example in the show Seinfeld.

  • Answer:

Bobby Lee always gets bullied (and paid, too) by the white American media to portray Asian people in certain ways. Sometimes positive/funny but oftentimes offensive and racist. Republican white Americans don't understand this and they never will, anyway. MadTV has racist stuff towards African-Americans, Middle Eastern Americans, white Americans, Jewish Americans, Hispanic Americans, etc., as well. Remember "That 70's Show"? And that cute Latino guy? I think his name is Wilmer Valderrama. Anyway, he was often there to ridicule Latinos and put on all these stereotypes. Don't forget Carlos Mencia. I wish we lived in a one-race world.

Black people are gangsters. White people are racist. Rich people are elitist. Hispanics are lay illegal immigrants. Teenagers are rude. Then look for examples that PROVE the theory. Look through newspapers for articles that specify the person's ethnicity when talking about crime. Do we really need to know whether a black person or a white person committed a specific crime? Are crimes committed by black people given more press than crimes committed by white people. Then look at popular television and movies. Do they perpetuate the stereotype? Then look for examples where the opposite is true. Find a newscast where someone with money gives freely of their time to help others. Teenagers doing things in the community to make things better. Examples where kids stand up to bullies in their schools. Good luck!
