Some would argue that it can be "value free" if it subjected to applied research by scientific method. However, as sociology is based on values held by individuals and reified societies in general, it is of necessity subjective at best.

No. All sociologists are biased by the values of family and society where they grew up. Even those who struggle to be value free still carry the bias of "producing science", pure science, etc. which is in itself a defender of the status quo against change - therefore they turn conservative.
