Should I go for Psychology or Sociology?
-
I'm thinking about going to a community college in Seattle later this year. I wanted to major in Sociology/Psychology because I find it really interesting how people think, react, or do certain things for whatever reasons that the average person doesn't even see or even question him/herself. So far, I catch myself thinking and questioning myself about why people tend to act in certain ways, (good, bad, or dumb) and everyone else tends to follow. Kind of like why most people tend to follow trends, show off, etc. I know this probably relates to Sociology. As to Psychology, I do sometimes end up thinking that even though people tend to act in different ways in groups, people are still different from each other. That makes me a bit more curious on how a single person would think, or why that person is thinking and acting in a particular way. So, I was trying to find out which major should I go for. I've heard that if one was to major ing Psychology, then it's definitely a must to continue and get a Masters since jobs looking for Psychologists prefer them to have that, and/or Ph.D. As for Sociology, people told me there are tons of jobs who are looking for Sociologists in comparison to Psychologists. Anyway, which one could be best for to major in? Also, feel free to add more comparison to these two majors. I already know Psychology is studying the thoughts of a single person, and Sociology is studying the minds of people in groups (society of coarse). I'm thinking about Sociology more, just because I heard Psychology is more direct in science, math, and biology. I guess they want you to know more than what a person thinks, but how the brain functions and everything.

Answer:
I'm an A level student studying in the UK. I'm studying Business, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. I can honestly say I have really enjoyed both of the subjects you have mentioned however I believe psychology is a lot more interesting as you can learn how the human mind actually works. Of course it involves hard work, dedication and time-consumption, but remember all degrees too! You will gain skills that not a lot of people will have. In my opinion, do what you mostly enjoy as you are twice as likely to work harder and good luck with your choice! Ryan :)

Sociology is how we interact with the world. Anything is applicable to socio, from hand gestures to communication. I find it interesting. If you major in sociology the only thing you can do is teach, work as a social worker, researcher or advertising. It would also be beneficial for example to do sociology major with advertising minor
