What is your fondest childhood memory?

  • Answer:

Strawberry picking with the family and then having a picnic after. I still remember the day we went, the sky was so blue and the sun was so bright, the fields were so green with the luscious red strawberries. I really enjoyed that day, being from a city I could really appreciate the beauty of the countryside ... Such a happy memory.

During the summer when I was between 5 and 7 years of age I used to play in an old apple tree. My father had nailed some boards up there and made a ladder. I would climb up there for hours and pretend play all sorts of things. I would imagine I was on a starship or riding a horse across the wild West, and have loads of fun for hours. Then when I would get tired of being in the tree, after many hours, I would come down and play in a sand box.

This probably sounds crazy to most of you. I'm a grown woman now and hate fishing. But, when I was just a little girl 5-10 years old probably, the greatest thrill in the world was going fishing with my Daddy. He'd wake me up early in the morning and we'd go to Grandma's ponds and we always caught fish. It was just a special time between father and daughter and is something that I've never forgotten. At the time it just seemed kinda magical. My friends fathers never took them fishing and they were all kinda jealous.

I was five and my mom pointed to a pond and told me that there was a thing called a microscope and if you took a drop of the pond water and looked at it under the microscope, you would be able to see lifeforms undetectable to the naked eye. It changed the way I looked at the world and it changed my life in the most profound way. My mom was the best.
