Is fear of racism the new racism?
-
I'm not racist. Not even close. But I've still noticed that there is ALWAYS a black person in every commercial. Also, whenever there is a commercial where a thief comes in and robs someones house, they are ALWAYS white (at least to the extent I've seen). Do you believe that "fear of being racist" has become the new racism? Because I do. I just wanted to hear some of your opinions.

Answer:
I understand what you mean. We should be tolerant towards people of other skin color etc., but we also shouldn't think about it too often. I've noticed how white people get nervous with black people around because they don't know how to act, and because they fear doing something racist. We shouldn't focus on not being racist, we should focus on being relaxed to have a good relationship with everybody.

To some degree it might be called a racism, but it is still better than the actual one. The commercials do are scared someone might sue them or something if the thief is black, but i believe people should just get the idea already, black people are not thieves, rapists,or whatever because of their skin color, there are bad people, be them white, black, asian, or anything. Hopefully the next generation (one born in a not so racist age) will be able to overcome this stereotypes and fears...

youre right. everyone is so scared that they are making it worse. unless, of course you watch law and order. the black people portrayed on that show are always so ghetto

I see exactly what you mean, I have had discussion when those commercials come on tv. and it IS the new racism just like "affirmative action".

If you are afraid you are racist then you probably are. Putting people in categeories by way of race is a little racist and I don't think that will ever go away because race is visible...unless no one ever mentions to a kid that someone is a different race than they are. Kids are great like that. They don't even notice skin colour differences.

I don't entirely understand what you mean by the "fear of racism"becoming the new racism. I read your question two different ways. The first way I read it was to think of racism as a "fear of race". Then your question would mean that this "fear of race" has been replaced by a "fear of being racist", but this didn't make any sense. The second way I read your question was to think of race as a "hate of race" and that what has replaced it was a "hate of beliefs". For example, people used to hate those who were black, now they hate those who hate those are black. The hate has shifted from one demographic of people to another. This second interpretation made more sense to me and seems more logical and also conceivable since who people hate is a matter of who they are socially taught to hate in many cases. Before people were taught to hate blacks, now they are taught to hate those who hate blacks. Much of who we think we are is who we are taught to be,
So what are you saying? What color person do you think is SUPPOSED to be in every commercial and what color are the theives SUPPOSED to be? Is there something WRONG with the commercials you cited?
