Does mixed people?

Do you view mixed (white/black) people as mixed or just black?

  • Knowing that one of their parents is white, the other black.. Do you consider them just black or mixed though you can tell they have a mixed appearance? (light olive complexion, deep brown eyes, long loose curls down her lower back) Just asking out of curiousity because it seems like when they do call themselves mixed there is always people saying something along the lines of "but you're still black to the world" or they will bring up the one drop rule. Then there are some people that get bent out of shape if mixed people just call themselves black claiming "they are not accepting of their white side" or something along the lines of that. Do people base it off of their skin complexion? If they are a light mixed person, they are mixed? But if they are a darker mixed person, they are just black? Are mixed (black/white) women even considered attractive?

  • Answer:

I consider mixed race people as simply mixed, or biracial. I don't believe in the "one drop rule." ~MSV

i think mixed black/white is one of the most attaractive looks ever. but i guess society in general would consider them black, just cause you can tell they are not 100% white and it is too hard to look at a person and dtermine if they are mixed, or light-skinned, or maybe even think they are spanish. so yes, as a rule unless someone looks totally white they won't be thought of as such

Actually, bi-racial people tend to gravitate towards those they feel most comfortable with. Who cares what the world says. I think they do get 'pidgeon-holed' a lot, people trying to make them become more ethnic or fit a certain stereotype. That's based on some things I've seen and heard, as well as the 'one drop rule.' People need to stop being so fussy over skin color tones and get on with life. Just think about how much you miss out on by worrying about beige skin, brown skin, black skin, straight hair, kinky hair, whether to 'go blonde', etc. I worked with a young woman/girl--biracial--who told me some horror stories about some things that happened to her at her high school. I also took a class with a bi-racial woman who said she wanted to become a hermit. She was tired of people staring at her, trying to figure out her ethnicity. Society is changing, though.

Someone who is half and half is bi racial, however someone who is two quarters this, quarter that, a little of this is by literal defintion mixed race, but outwardly may "look" like something else. How we define ourselves is very important, but also how others define/see us. My mum is bi racial, Blacks welcome her in general her, she is half Black, but Whites by and large see her as "non White" therefore "other" therefore not one of them. The truth of the matter is, you have White, and "other"..this is how many many Whites class things. It is spoken about behind closed doors.
