Current examples of stereotypes in the media?

  • I have a history project to find 5 examples of stereotypes that teenagers are constantly exposed to... but I can't find anything. My teacher won't let us use comedy, which is so annoying! We can use any stereotypes: blacks, whites, gay people, jews, etc from any kind of source: website, tv show, commercial, magazine, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions about where I can find something?

    Wow! Long time a question made me think so long. Your class must be very good. I have many examples but they all deal with comedy and cartoons (like spedee gonzalez, you know). I would say muslim=evil is a very strong stereotype present in the media, materialized not in one character but in many comments, opinions, images, criteria and frequency in which the material is shown. Another stereotype is the general belief that weather forecaster must be woman and bimbos. War reporters must wear a green-grey waistcoats with a lot of little pockets. good luck, I hope this helps!

You want examples of stereotypes in the media? When something goes wrong in the black community, the reporter interviews 3 blacks and only air the one with speaking ebonics and with missing teeth. (funny but not funny- lmao). Why do commercials air blacks with hair weave for a shampoo commercial knowing dam well the product does not work on their natural hair (Pantene) Why in real suspense & thriller presidential, almost end of the world movies, the president declaring martial law or state of emergency is a white man? Think now they will make Denzel a president in the next Air Force one Movie? And the #1 stereotype - In a horror movie, the black man/woman is always the first to die, get sick, be eaten, get shot, etc... But now they are the 2nd to die after Anaconda was made. FYI - I'm black.
