HELP SCIENCE FAIR!!! Science fair project on Social Inequality?

  • I am an 11th grader and I have to think of a science fair project and do some research on it. I have thought of two projects and I don't know which one I should do. Social Issues & Sociology: Social Inequality-have people take a little test to see what they know about social inequality and what they think about it Capitalism vs. Socialism-If you think I should do this one, can you explain it a little bit and give me some idea of I how I can turn it into a science fair project. Those are the two projects that I have in mind. If you think there should be something added to it, you can add to it. Or if you have a different project in mind that would get me a good grade, can you please let me know and explain it?

  • Answer:

Social Inequality and Capitalism vs Socialism are two over-researched subject in the field of sociology. Both topics have tremendous amount of information ready to be read and found on the Internet. That means you probably will have a easier time putting together your project, and getting a decent grade- assuming you don't go off topic and mess it up. The downside to it is that you will probably not excite the crowd unless you come up with some insightful comments or find major discovery. Some ideas toward social inequality would be listing out myths of each race and busting it with facts. Perhaps collect some demographic data, comparing countries, or states, or cities, or even schools- try doing a simple survey. There are many books that has written on this subject, and you can try to compare it to modern society. Lots of issues concerning the well being of a person are due to social inequality, you can find it easily on the news and the Internet. Capitalism vs Socialism has many information, with lots of room to stretch your ideas and allows you to use your creativity. Honestly, this is a very straightforward topic that even a primary school student can do. The only thing you can improve on is the presentation part of it, anything else is probably more or less the same as the next person. Examples would be, "modern" capitalism vs socialism- do a country by country comparison, the advantages and disadvantages of capitalism vs socialism, find movies/films about capitalism and socialism- there are a few of them, and write your analysis and evaluation. I don't know how advanced is your high school, but the following topics I think would be a eye opener ad more interesting for many students: gender equality, women's rights and studies, humanitarian aid and effort around the world, gdp and its countries well being, what does it mean to have a huge national debt, a comparison of eastern and western culture and their conflicts and shared similarities.
