What is Fijian culture like?

Dose it necessary to evaluate positively ones own culture and negatively others culture to be happy?

  • I see that nearly all Muslim love conservative life style and hates western way of life. They are happy with that. On the other hand western people love liberal life style and they are happy with that. So, People who born in one culture evaluate positively to that culture, so they love their culture. And negatively to other culture, so they dislike other culture. So, There is no objective or rational reasoning to liking one culture or disliking other culture. Because, if it were come from rational thinking, then there should be similar statistical probability of liking liberal values among people who born in Muslim family and who born in non-Muslim western family. Its seems to me that, it is helpful to be bias to one own culture so that he can love his culture which help to be happy. What is your opinion?

  • Answer:

In Sociology, these can be termed as ethnocentrism or preferring one's own culture over others, and xenocentrism or the preference of other cultures over your own. Those who are ethnocentric of course finds happiness in belittling other cultures and seeing theirs as superior to all others. It is a normal occurrence. But what I think is that it's not healthy at certain points. I still choose equality for all :)
