How much native american blood do you have?

How much Native American Blood makes you a Native American?

  • Answer:

I have been tracing my family roots and I have discovered that if you have a definitive and clear line to a native american then you can claim to be native American. Ironically and (funny to me) I have seen red heads doing a tribal dance. This will get you started on your genealogy trek http://www.cyndislist.com/surn-m.htm

You can call yourself what you want on Federal forms and in your own life. Other than that it depends on the pre-qualifications of what you're applying for.

An anthropology teacher of mine looked very, very European/Anglo-Saxon, yet he lived on a reservation and was considered to be an American Indian. So I asked and the rule is that one eight of "Indian" blood qualifies a person as a member of the race. In my personal opinion such a person´s blood is much too "diluted", but I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere and this line was drawn by the native Americans themselves. That´s their privilege.

Hi y´all !

1/8th qualifies... that's the minimum.
