Is crab mentality positive or negative?

Is this also a form of "Crab Mentality"?

  • Hi everyone, I know that crab mentality is when you try to pull someone down because you're jealous of him or her...But can this also happen even if the person is not jealous of you but rather doesn't believe in you at all? For example, i want to be a great airbrush artist and 3d animator in the future so i took a college degree that is related to it and work really hard, than your parents said that "you cant do it, you have no future on what you've taken, you're too old to learn such things, i don't see potentials in you, you're a big mistake, you're a hopeless son etc. It really pains me to hear to words from someone, and the worst part is you've had to hear this words from your parents...Is this also considered as crab mentality? Thanks

  • Answer:

Not exactly. Crab mentality is best described by the phrase: "If I can't have it, neither can you." It's also referred to as "crabs in the bucket." Parents telling their child: "you're a big mistake," and "you're a hopeless son" is just plain abusive.
