If Neanderthal man were alive today, should they have basic human rights?

Neanderthals are alive today; Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal are thought to have interbred and evolved into what we now define as human. If you mean a singular or small group somehow preserved ie. The Movie Encino Man... then they would basically have the intelligence of a mentally handicapped person, so you'd probably see about the same treatment (social stigmas aside, they'd be treated the same as everyone else under the law).

They seem to have been "human" in nearly every way, so I'd say "yes". I think the question is moot, however, Neanderthals are not extinct, you can see their descendants every day, walking around any major city with a population of European origin.

I do not beleive in "human rights" I beleive all organisms, intelligent or otherwise, are born entitled with every right imaginable. Social systems and societies take these rights away.

Yes. Neanderthals were human in every way that we can measure humanity from skeletal remains. Large brow ridges aside, a Neanderthal could be your next door neighbor. They actually had larger average cranial capacities than modern humans, and DNA evidence now suggests that they had a gene believed to be responsible for speech in humans.

Lol, okay, so I hate to say it, but the previous poster is potentially right (not about evolution, but by Neanderthal). There are some legitimate researchers who believe Neanderthal's have not died out. That they were simply a population with very particular characteristics that bred into the rest of the general population (this taking place in Western Europe and England). Check out research C. Loring Brace if you are interested. I don't know how his research is received today, but he always was good at supporting his alternative theories 15 years ago. Then again, a few of those theories were a little off as well.

Of course. As much as he can assimilate would determine what rights he would have. Would he be allowed to enter society? It is hard to say. We let some pretty scary people be a part of society, neanderthal man may be preferable. *swim guy* Evolution is not stupid. It is a fact of life. Nothing stays in limbo. Everything evolves, even you are evolving as we speak.

No.. because if a Neanderthal did live in this time period.. It would prove that man did not come from the big bang theory, because that man should have evolved hundreds and billions of years ago.. He should not be in this time.. Therefore he' would be just a socially challenged person whom was born deformed.. and would be treated as mentally ill..

There's no such thing or has ever been such a thing a Neanderthal man. There are so many people today with that same type of skeleton and skull. Evolution is stupid!
