What type of degree do I need?

What type of degree would you need to help hoarders?

  • I already have a degree in sociology but I was wondering if I would need some type of clinical degree in psychology to deal with the obsessive compulsive side or if I would just need to become a Certified Professional Organizer. I have see both deal with the issue and was wondering if anyone knew or had suggestions.

  • Answer:

Did you watch that show on A&E last night? Professional Organizer is not gonna be enough. These people need treatment with counseling and probably med management as well or the organizer will have to be in there every day to keep it under control. Of course there are many more options than just a LCSW and a PsyD to do counseling.

You would need a Ph.D in psychology or to be a licensed clinical social worker. I have no idea what a certified professional organizer is, but it doesn't sound like the type of area someone suffering from an OCD spectrum would need.
