Are psychologists less expert than psychiatrists?

Neither help more than the other. They usually work in cooperation! As you may already know, Psychiatrists are the only ones qualified to make an assessment for medications, whereas Psychologists are only trained to recognise symptoms and administer psychotherapies. However, in those cases where treatment is required, medication alone is NOT adequate. Whether someone needs meds or not, psychotherapy will be involved and, although Psychiatrists are trained to administer this, it is more often than not a Psychologist, or even a counselor, who will take this responsibility. In fact, I would say that Psychologists are usually more involved in treatment than Psychiatrists, as medications aren't necessary in most cases.

Psychiatrist are much more likely to treat people with pills. Psychologists and social workers are very good at listening to people and are interested in trying to help them solve their problems. Example: Panic disorder. A psychiatrist would treat you with Xanax, Valium or Ativan. A psychologist might suggest Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

A psychiatrist is a job; most psychiatrists are probably also psychologists. Psychologists also do research in to psychology, how the mind works. Psychiatrists just help individual people. All the case studies and experiments are done by psychologists

Psychiatrists have a degree in medicine and are MD's and so can therefore prescribe medication. Psychologists aren't doctors...unless they have a phd.

Psychiatrists can write prescriptions and are medical doctors...psychologists have a PhD and are counselors...or teachers too.
