How many jobs can I apply at once?

How many people apply per post on average for assistant psychology jobs?

• I'm from the UK, but I encourage answers from anywhere (please specify) but does anyone know how many people apply for the assistant psychologist jobs generally? I know it is competative but could do with more info. thank you for your help

  Its hard to say an average, it can vary hugely depending on the area of the country, the exact nature of the role, and the time of year (close to/just after graduation/end of year time is likely to see everyone and their mother applying for whatever they can get). I've known quite a few people who have either applied, or been involved in the selection process, for such posts though. One recent one in the South West (Devon/Cornwall area) had 30-40 or so applicants, and I think that was just under what they expected. A couple in the London area that I know people have applied for received 150 and 370 applicants respectively (the latter probably being a lot more than expected). I had a friend apply for one last year in the Sussex area which had 60-70 people apply. The London area is always going to be more competitive, as are the areas surrounding universities with prominent health/clinical specialities/NHS presence (e.g. Southampton or Sussex). My best advice would be to not restrict yourself in terms of location, and apply for whatever comes up. And don't be disheartened if you're unsuccessful, take note of any feedback you're given and do as much voluntary stuff in the mean time as you can (good references from prominent people will also get you a long way).
