Do positive stereotypes exist?

Is it impossible for stereotypes to cease to exist?

  • If you met a guy with no legs, yep, the first judgment is, he has no legs! But once you got to know him a day would go by, where you probably wouldn't even think about the point he has no legs! Are stereotypes essential for the media, in getting messages across? What do you think?

  • Answer:

Stereotypes are a result of generalising. We do this because if we took the time to get to know every single person we see and/or meet, we'd spend all our time doing that, leaving no time to do anything else. So instead, we stereotype. This can lead us to make mistakes too so it may save time but it can have obvious negative affects too. The media uses stereotyping to label certain people in certain ways. They don't need to and there are many different sociological opinions on why. I could go on so if you want to know more, ask.
