Answer:
In economics, we say that money plays three roles: - means of exchange -- you accept money in exchange for your time and effort at your job, and shops accept money in exchange for whatever you buy - store of value. You can work now, but save the money for retirement - measure of value: you value your house in dollars. Not sure about roles of money in sociology. Ask that in their section.
