What do you think of the EU?

France try to settle a tobin tax to the EU country. What do you think ?

  • Tobin tax is a tax about on the financial transaction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobin_tax President Sarkozy try to settle this in some countries of EU. What do you think about this tax, and do you think it's a good idea ?

  • Answer:

Sarkozy made this proposal in order to correct his image in the eyes of french electors. Presidential elections will be held in spring 2012. His socialist rival, François Hollande is leading the polls, so Sarkozy has to do something. Basically he was more kind of neo-liberal when he was elected 5 years ago. Today he lacks popular support. Personally, I'm not a big fan of economic systems depending on financial transactions. Transactions tend to seize the value created by other people, working hard in the "real world", so I think, that the power of money should be controlled, and more money should be collected and redistributed by the state, but that's a matter of ideology, of course. Finance-based economies seem more vulnerable in crisis times, too.
